Orthographics

After coming up with the concept for my wearable, I created orthographic drawings and set to work 3-D modeling in SOLIDWORKS.

SNEAK SKATES

Kids Roller Skates

Wearables

Fall 2019

The Sneak Skates are an answer to the lack of affordable yet safe and durable roller skates available for children. Through employing a high-top sneaker rather than a skate boot, children are granted enough ankle support for recreational skating while circumventing the break-in process and prohibitive price of other skates.

Inspiration

The sneak skates drew form inspiration from Vans Sk8-hi shoes as well as the cartoon character Rainbow Brite. The colorways of the shoes are drawn from '70s and '80s ski wear.

Final Design

The final design solution for Sneak Skates features: a velcro strap, a padded shoe for ankles support, and a rubber toe cap to keep the toe from getting a hole in it.

Detail

The top-most fastener of sneak skates is a velcro strap with a star detail. Rather than having several hooks up the ankle of the boot, these skates feature a velcro strap which is both easy to secure and will not get stuck to the laces of the other foot unlike hooks.

Colorways

The palette for sneak skates is inspired by retro ski gear with varied hues and tones of similar colors. The saturated colors are great for kids and the nostalgic feel is fun for parents too.

User Experience

Sneak-Skates are a lightweight, unisex skate with the correct amount of ankle support for young children, and are easy to get on and off yet safe and secure while skating.
