When tasked with designing a Funko Pop adjacent collectible vinyl figure, I created Mitzi. You can read more about the process below.
Inspiration
Form inspiration was first drawn from the idea that Hello Kitty is not actually a cat but a young girl in a cat suit. Then I drew further inspiration from the artist Yoshitomo Nara, Korean makeup trends, and Snow White.
Sketches
My first step in designing Mitzi was to define her visual form. I wanted her design to be uncomplicated and excessively sweet.
Orthographic views
Once I had Mitzi's form defined, I threw my orthographic sketches into SOLIDWORKS and modeled her using surfacing.
Finished Design
After finishing the 3d model in SOLIDWORKS I added materials and finish in KeyShot.
Hero Shot
After adding materials and finish I created lighting environments for each rendering I would create.
Packaging
Mitzi's packaging is inspired by a milk carton. The box is matte white with a drawing of Mitzi in gloss white on the front that wraps around to the right side, the name of the product is in rainbow, and information about the toy series is on the left.
User Experience
Since Mitzi is available in a wide range of colors, Mitzis from different series can be collected to perfectly decorate any space!
